Students learn how to make hinges and keyhole brackets out of brass and drill rod. Finishing techinques using shellac and wax are also taught.

Traditional techniques are taught on dovetailing and drawer fitting. Students will make their own paring chisels and learn how to cut half blind and through dovetails. Fine tools, handmade, complement this type of custom work.

Dowelling jigs help you align sides to tops and bottoms of cabinets. They are made specific to each cabinet and are neccessary in learning how to build "let go" in the cabinet interior space. Let go is a technique that places the cabinet out of square.

Some shop shots of our cabinetmaking club underway with the creation of wooden smoothers. These smoothers are designed after the smoothers that James Krenov used in his furniture making.

Follow along as we show some of the steps in building this fine little cabinet. Designed to hold a bottle or special item it will easily complement your home furnishings.  Everything is handmade from the coopered (curved) door to the dovetailed drawer. All hardware is also handmade from the solid brass hinges to drawer pulls and cabinet hardware.
